Dr. Andrea Staskowska is a scholar and a seeker. She earned a Master's degree at the Divinity School of the University of Chicago, a Master of Arts in Cinema Studies from New York University, and was awarded her doctorate from the University of Iowa in Communication. The author of 3 books, including "Conversations with Experience," she taught in small colleges and at large universities in the U.S. and Europe. Continuing her research in communication and culture, Dr. Andrea is also a Kundalini Research Institute certified yoga teacher.

In this course, we are exploring why cinema appeared at the historical moment that it did and how cinema impacted the history of the United States - and the world.
Industrialization and urbanization began in Europe hundreds of years before, but mass immigration into the United States in the late 19th century, gave rise to a new kind of mass society which was created and informed by a new kind of communication: mass media. This is the focus of our exploration.
